Presence, Process & Use of Self
In Clinical Practice and Supervision
A reflective workshop for therapists, clinicians and helping practitioners navigating complexity, emotional labour, and professional responsibility.
Tuesday 20 January,
12 - 1.15pm AEDT
Online (Recording available)
"Thank you so much for normalising the experience of all of these challenges that come with caring work, and for reminding me of the joy that I also feel".
Many clinicians and supervisors are working in environments marked by high demand, limited time, and increasing complexity.
You may find yourself:
- Carrying emotional and ethical weight that has little space to be processed
- Feeling pressure to move quickly when slowing down would actually support better care
- Unsure how much of yourself to bring into the work while maintaining clear boundaries
- Missing reflective spaces that feel thoughtful, human, and professionally grounded
This workshop responds to those realities.
A grounded framework for working with complexity
This 75-minute workshop introduces three core capacities that sit beneath effective, ethical, and sustainable practice:
Presence:
The ability to remain grounded, attuned, and responsive under pressure.
Process:
Noticing what is happening in the relational and emotional field, not just the content of the work.
Use of self:
Working intentionally and ethically with who you are, without overextending or disappearing.
Everyday clinical skills that help you stay connected to yourself, others, and the wider context of your work.
What you will take away
By the end of this workshop, you will:
Have a clearer understanding of presence, process, and use of self in real clinical and supervision contexts
Gain practical ways to stay grounded when work feels emotionally charged or time pressured
Feel more confident navigating relational dynamics, boundaries, and uncertainty
Leave with language and frameworks you can apply immediately in practice, teams, or supervision
Feel less alone with the realities of caring work and more supported in how you carry it
This workshop is designed to offer support you can use straight away.
Certificate of Attendance (CPD points) available upon request.

"Minky has a wonderful way of putting complex theory into easy-to-understand language".

I’m Minky van der Walt, a Registered Music Therapist, psychotherapist, and clinical supervisor with over 25 years of clinical experience.
I've witnessed first-hand the cumulative toll of exhaustion, perfectionism, and self-doubt, and how broken systems can leave even the most dedicated clinicians running on empty.
What I also know is that with the right tools, support, and community, it’s possible to flourish again.
What I Offer You:
25+ Years of Clinical Experience: insight from hospitals, community services, and private practice that helps me understand the challenges you’re facing.
Depth in Training & Practice: practical tools from neuroscience, somatic work, EMDR, and creative approaches that you can actually use in daily practice.
20+ Years of Clinical Supervision: guidance that goes beyond theory, helping you translate your skills into sustainable, fulfilling work.
Lived Experience: I’ve been through the same challenges - I know what it takes to move from exhaustion and doubt to clarity and renewal.
"Minky’s approach is creative, compassionate and insightful. Her work is informed by a deep and broad knowledge and many years of experience".

This workshop is designed to stand on its own.
Many participants find that the language, frameworks, and reflective space offered here provide immediate support that they can take back into their work.
At the same time, presence, process, and use of self are relational capacities that deepen over time. They are often strengthened through ongoing reflection, dialogue, and shared thinking with others who understand the realities of caring work.
For those who find this way of working supportive, group supervision offers an optional pathway for continuity.
Group supervision provides a steady, facilitated space to:
Reflect on complex clinical and professional experiences
Explore relational dynamics and ethical tensions
Strengthen presence and use of self in real-world contexts
Feel less alone in carrying the emotional and systemic weight of the work
There is no expectation to continue beyond the workshop.
Ongoing support is offered as one possible way to sustain reflective practice over time.
